SECTION A 

Read the passage and answer the questions that follow:

Hunt, the team leader, selected two teams of climbers. The first team included Tom Bourdillon and Charles Evans, while Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay made up the second team.

The first team left on May 26, 1953 to reach the summit of Mt. Everest. The two men made it up to about 300 feet short of the summit, still the highest any human being had yet reached. They were forced to turn back after they encountered bad weather.

ACTIVITY 1

Write T for true and F for false statements in the given space:

(a) Charles Evans was in the first team of climbers.

(b) Hillary was the leader of the team.

(c) Each team had two members.

ACTIVITY 2

Answer the following questions:

(a) Who were in the second team?

Ans: Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay were the member of the second team.

 

(b) Name the members of the first team.

Ans: The first team included Tom Bourdillon and Charles Evans. 

 

(c) By what distance did the first team fall short of the summit?

Ans: The first team fell 300 feet short of the summit.

Fill in the blanks with Personal Pronouns:

(a) Reena is fond of plants.      She     waters them everyday.

(b) Rekha, Asha and Mina are three sisters.   They   go to school together.

(c) Digha is a famous tourist spot.   It      is a beautiful place.

 

ACTIVITY 4

Write four sentences on ‘A Clear Night Sky’.

Ans.: 

1. Today we are watching a clear night sky.
2. This beautiful clear night sky appears to us after a heavy rainfall.
3. We are enjoying under this clear night sky from our terrace.
4. This type of weather under a clear night sky is so refreshing for us.
