ACTIVITY 1

Read the following passage and answer the questions that follow:

'One Thousand and One Nights is a collection of the Middle Eastern folk tales compiled in Arabic during the Islamic Golden Age. It is often known in English as 'The Arabian Nights. The work was collected over many centuries by various authors, translators, and scholars across West, Central and South Asia, and North Africa. The bulk of the text is in prose, although verse is occasionally used for songs and riddles and to express serious emotion. Some of the stories commonly associated with 'The Arabian Nights, in particular 'Aladdin'sWonderfulLamp'," Alibaba and the Forty Thieves' and' TheSevenVoyages of Sindbad the Sailor' were not part of 'The Arabian Nights in its original Arabic version. These stories were added to the collection by Antoine Galland and other European translators.

Ans: Some of the stories commonly associated with 'The Arabian Nights, in particular, 'Aladdin's Wonderful Lamp', "Alibaba and the Forty Thieves and 'The Seven Voyages of Sindbad the Sailor' were not part of 'The Arabian Nights in its original Arabic version. 

 

ACTIVITY 2

Identify the Assertive, Imperative, Optative, Exclamatory and Interrogative sentences:  1 × 5 = 5

Ans: Interrogative sentence

Ans: Assertive sentence.

Ans: Imperative sentence.

Ans: Optative sentence

 


ACTIVITY 3

Add Prefixes to the words given below and make opposites:  1 × 5 = 5

respect, comfortable, fortune, mature, literate

Ans: respect = disrespect

comfortable = uncomfortable

fortune = misfortune

mature = immature

literate = illiterate

 

ACTIVITY 4


Develop the following outline into a story. Add a suitable title and a moral to your story: 6

The stag was drinking water – saw the image of his horns – admired them – disliked slender legs – chased by a pack of wolves – horns caught in the thick bush – lamented 

Ans: 

A Stag and his horn

Once a stag was drinking water. Suddenly he saw the image of his horns in the water. He was so happy. He was shocked when he saw his legs. He disliked his slender legs. He was thinking about how he could make these legs attractive and precious.

Suddenly he heard some sound of wolves. He got scared. He saw some wolves were running towards him. He started running towards the forest. Unfortunately, his horns caught in a thick bush. He lamented for his mistake.  

Moral of the Story: Every organ of our body is equally important. So never underestimate them.
