In this post, we will discuss the answer to Model Activity Task Part 3 of Class 8 English.

 

Let us look at the questions before discussing the answers:

 

The Infinitive

Q1) Point out the verbs which are finite and which are non-finite in the following sentences :

a) My mother cooks food for the family.
 Ans. Cooks-Finite verb

b) Se attended three meetings.
Ans. Attended - Finite Verb 

c) My friend wants to go to Agra to visit the Taj Mahal.
Ans. Wants- finite verb,
to go- non finite,
to visit- non finite.

d) The hunter killed the tiger.
Ans. killed - finite

e) He refused to obey the orders.
Ans. refused - finite,
to obey - non finite

f) To err is human.
Ans. to err - non finite

 

Q2) Fill in the blanks using a suitable verb with Infinitives . A list of verbs is given belowLIST: play, take, hear, swim, enjoy.

a) I am sorry _to hear_his.

  b) Everybody wishes _     to enjoy____life.

c) She knows how __   to swim__.
 
d) He likes  _   to play___cards.

e) The doctor advised him _to take___rest.

 

Q3) Join the pair of sentences using Infinitives.

a) He went to Amritsar. He wanted to visit the Golden Temple.
Ans. He went to Amritsar to visit the Golden Temple.

b) Everyone should do his duty. India expects this of every man.
Ans. India expects everyone (or everyman) to do his duty.

c) I speak the truth. I am not afraid of it.
Ans. I am not afraid to speak the truth.

d) He has three children. He must provide for them.
Ans. He has three children to provide for.

e) Every football team has a captain. He directs the other players.
Ans. Every football team has a captain to directs the other players.
